Create a photo album and share photos with families
Summary: The Photos feature lets you organize photos into albums and share them with the right families. Go to Photos, click Create Album, give it a title, optionally add a description, then choose your album viewers (an individual child, a classroom, or the whole school). Once the album exists, click Upload Photo to add images from your device or take one in the moment, and you can add a caption to any photo. Parents view their albums in the mobile app, where they can see captions and download photos. Who can see an album depends on the viewers you choose.
Who can do this
Any assigned teacher can create and share photo albums for the children in their classroom from inside their classroom. Owners and Administrators can do this for any classroom and for whole-school albums. The album viewers you choose control which families can see the photos.
Step-by-step
- Open Photos. Go to Photos. Your existing albums load.
- Create an album. Click Create Album.
- Enter a title. Give the album a title, for example, a child's name for an individual album, or an event name for a classroom or school album.
- Add a description (optional). Add a description if you want; this field is optional.
- Choose your album viewers. Select who can see the album: an individual child, a classroom, or the whole school. See "Choosing who can see an album" below.
- Upload photos. Click Upload Photo and add images from your hard drive, from your photo gallery on a mobile device, or by taking a photo in the moment and uploading it directly from the camera. You can add up to 25 files per upload. If you select more, a toast reads "You can only upload 25 files," so for larger sets just repeat the upload until all the photos are added.
- Add a caption (optional). Add a caption to a photo so families see your note when they open it.
Choosing who can see an album
When you set the album viewers, you decide exactly which families can see the photos:
- An individual child, only the parents assigned or attached to that child can see the album, along with that child's teachers and the school administrators. Other parents cannot see it.
- A classroom, the album is shared with the entire class.
- The whole school, the album is available to all families in the school.
Adding captions to photos
You can add a caption to any photo, a title and a note. For example, on a photo of a child's birthday you might write "Happy Birthday Cassidy, wishing you another beautiful trip around the sun." When a parent opens that photo in the mobile app, they see the caption along with the image.
How parents view photos
Parents view the albums shared with them in the parent mobile app. They can open the photos, see any captions you added, and download photos to keep.
A few things worth knowing
- An individual album is private to that child's family, teachers, and administrators. Other parents never see it.
- You can upload from a computer, from your phone's gallery, or straight from your camera in the moment.
- Uploads are capped at 25 files at a time. For larger sets, repeat the upload until every photo is added.
- A description on the album is optional; only a title and the viewers are needed to create one.
- Parents can download the photos shared with them, so albums are an easy way for families to keep these memories.
