The Journal Page is your central workspace for recording Montessori lessons and tracking daily classroom activity. It provides a streamlined view of student progress and offers powerful tools to record, plan, and filter information quickly.
Switching Between Lessons and Trackers
At the top of the Journal, you’ll find a toggle switch that lets you flip between:
- Lessons – Montessori academic lessons tied to your curriculum.
- Trackers – Non-curricular records for activities such as meals, naps, diapers, classroom needs, or behavioral notes.
Using Lessons
Step 1: Select a Category and Subcategory
- Start by selecting a category (e.g., Sensorial), and then a subcategory (e.g., Visual Discrimination: Size and Dimension). You'll see a percentage of lessons recorded at both the category and subcategory level.
- Once you select a subcategory, you’ll see a list of lessons within it and an assessment icon under each child’s name to help you understand coverage.
Step 2: Review Lesson Details
- Click the circular "i" icon to view:
- The lesson description
- Relevant cycle years
- Associated elements
- A preview of what families will see if you choose to share the lesson. Some lessons include a photo for added context.
Step 3: Understand Visual Icons
- Light Bulb Icon – Indicates that the lesson is planned for a child.
Triangle Icons – Show the child’s progress:
Presented Working Mastered
This bird’s-eye view helps you quickly assess the status of each child across multiple lessons.
Recording or Planning a Lesson
- Select a student’s box beside a lesson.
- A floating toolbar will appear at the bottom of the screen—click Record or Plan.
- The Quick Add panel will open with:
- The student and lesson auto-filled
- Option to adjust visibility (shared or private)
- Option to add a photo
- Element selection (first element is automatically selected)
- Assessment level (Presented, Working, Mastered)
- Option to add a shared note (visible to families on Activity Report) or a private note (internal use only)
- Click Save to record.
Planning Future Lessons
- Click Plan instead of Record.
- Select a future date or leave it blank for an unscheduled plan.
Journal Shortcuts and Filters
- Select All / Remove All: Quickly apply or clear student selections.
- Filters: Use filters to customize your view by:
- Listing students alphabetically by first name or last name
- Filtering students by their Grade/Cycle year
- Essential lessons only (those marked by you or your admin)
- Assessment level: Highest or Most Recent
Click Apply to view filtered results or Default to remove filters.
Using Trackers
Switching to the Trackers side of the journal offers the same functionality as lessons but focuses on non-academic entries.
Example:
- Record that a student—or all students—ate a morning snack today.
- Like lessons, you can select students, fill in tracker details, and click Save to record.
