What are managed lessons?
Summary: When you are editing your curriculum, you may come across a lesson marked as a managed lesson. Managed lessons are the default lessons that were pre-loaded into your account, and by default they cannot be edited. On a managed lesson you can Preview the details and Archive it, but you cannot edit it. If you need to change a managed lesson, you can either add your own custom lesson alongside it, or email support to request that managed lesson status be removed from your curriculum so the lessons become editable.
Who can do this
You will only encounter managed lessons while editing curriculum, which requires curriculum editing permission. Administrators and Teacher Curriculum Editors can edit curriculum; teachers cannot. The way to tell is the context switcher in the upper-right corner. If you can switch to Account Admin, you have access to the curriculum editor where managed lessons appear. If you only see your classroom there, you do not have permission, and you will need to ask an administrator or a Teacher Curriculum Editor for help.
What a managed lesson is
Managed lessons are the default Montessori lessons that were pre-loaded into your account. They are set as managed so the core scope and sequence stays intact, which means you cannot edit them while they remain managed.
What you can do with a managed lesson
On a managed lesson, the menu offers two actions, but not Edit:
- Preview — open the lesson to view its full details.
- Archive — remove the lesson from your curriculum if your school does not use it.
You will not see an Edit option on a managed lesson. You can still add your own custom lessons alongside the managed ones; custom lessons are fully editable.
How to make a managed lesson editable
If you decide you want to make changes to the managed lessons themselves, email support and request that the managed lesson status be removed from your curriculum. Once support removes that status, you will be able to make whatever changes you need to any of the lessons in the curriculum.
A few things worth knowing
- Managed lessons are the default, pre-loaded lessons; their menu offers Preview and Archive only, not Edit.
- If you only need different content, the simplest path is to add a custom lesson rather than changing a managed one.
- Archiving a managed lesson removes it from your active curriculum without editing it.
- Removing managed lesson status is done by support on request, and it applies to your curriculum so the lessons become editable.
