Use the Planned Lessons page

Summary: The Planned Lessons page is where you see the lessons you have planned for your classroom and record them when you present them. Two tabs at the top organize the page: Scheduled for lessons planned for a specific date, and Unscheduled for lessons with no date attached. The two work the same way, so you can record straight from either — a date is not required to record. When you record a planned group lesson, you can present it to a smaller group by deselecting children; the children you leave out stay planned so you can come back to them. The three-dots menu lets you edit a lesson to reschedule it, remove its date, or assign a date that moves it from Unscheduled to Scheduled.

Who can do this

Any assigned teacher can use the Planned Lessons page for the children in their classroom. Owners and Administrators can use it for any classroom. No special role is required.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the Planned Lessons page. The page opens with two tabs at the top: Scheduled and Unscheduled. See "Scheduled vs. unscheduled lessons" below.
  2. Choose a planned lesson. Find the lesson you want to record. You can record from either tab — a date is not required.
  3. Select the children. All children planned for the lesson start selected. To present it to a smaller group, deselect the children you are not recording for now.
  4. Record. Click Record. Only the children you left checked are pulled into the entry.
  5. Save. Click Save. The lesson is recorded for the children you presented it to.
  6. Check what stays planned. The children you deselected remain planned for that lesson, so you can return and present it to them later. See "Recording a group lesson in smaller batches" below.
  7. Edit or reschedule (optional). Use the three-dots menu to edit the lesson, change or remove its date, or assign a date. See "Editing, rescheduling, and assigning dates" below.

Scheduled vs. unscheduled lessons

The only difference between the two tabs is the date:

  • Scheduled lessons were planned for a specific date.
  • Unscheduled lessons do not have a date attached.

They function the same way, so choosing a date is not necessary — you do not have to assign a date before you can record. If you would like, you can simply record from the Unscheduled tab.

Recording a group lesson in smaller batches

When a lesson was planned for a group, you can record it in smaller batches. With all children selected, deselect the ones you are not presenting to right now; when you click Record, only the checked children come through. After you save, the children you removed and did not record for remain planned for that lesson. This is how the page helps you remember to go back and present the lesson to the rest of the group at a later time.

Editing, rescheduling, and assigning dates

The three-dots menu next to a lesson opens its edit options:

  • Reschedule — if you did not get to a lesson on its planned date, change the date to a new one.
  • Remove the date — clear the date to make the lesson unscheduled again.
  • Assign a date — from the Unscheduled tab, choose Edit lesson, add a date, and save. The lesson moves to the Scheduled tab under that date.

A few things worth knowing

  • Scheduled and unscheduled lessons behave identically — the date is just an organizing label, not a requirement for recording.
  • Recording a planned lesson for part of a group leaves the rest planned, so nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Adding or removing a date moves a lesson between the Scheduled and Unscheduled tabs.
