Assign students to a classroom
Summary: Once a child has been created, you assign them to a classroom so they appear on its roster and you can record lessons for them. From the Account Admin area, go to the Classroom page, choose the classroom you want, and click Edit Students. You will see who is already enrolled and who is not. Check the box next to the child you want, then click Add to enroll them. You can enroll one child at a time or multi-select several children and add them all at once. After adding, the classroom assignment shows on the child's profile on the student profiles page.
Who can do this
Assigning children to classrooms happens in the Account Admin area, so it requires that level of access. Account Owners and Administrators can assign students to classrooms.
The way to tell is the context switcher in the upper-right corner. If you can switch to Account Admin, you can assign students to a classroom. If you only see your classroom there, you do not have permission, and you will need to ask an administrator for help.
Step-by-step
- Open the Classroom page. From the Account Admin area, go to the Classroom page.
- Choose the classroom. Select the classroom you want to add the child to.
- Edit the students. Click Edit Students for that classroom. You will see students who are enrolled and students who are not yet enrolled.
- Select the child. Find the child in the not-enrolled list and check the box next to their name.
- Add the child. Click Add. The child is now enrolled in that classroom.
- Confirm the assignment. Go back to the main student profiles page and confirm the child now shows their classroom assignment.
Assigning several children at once
If you have many children who need a classroom assignment, you do not have to add them one by one. In the Edit Students view, multi-select by checking the boxes next to several children, then click Add to enroll them all into the classroom at once. You can still add children individually whenever you prefer.
How to tell a child has no classroom yet
On the student profiles page, a child with no classroom assignment shows no classroom next to their name. After you enroll them, that page updates to show which classroom they belong to, which is a quick way to confirm the assignment worked.
A few things worth knowing
- You must be in the Account Admin role to assign children to a classroom.
- The Edit Students view separates children who are already enrolled from those who are not, so you only pick from the not-enrolled list.
- You can enroll children one at a time or multi-select and add a whole group at once.
- The child's classroom assignment appears on the main student profiles page once you have added them.
