Overview

A digital lesson planning tool can help you efficiently organize and track lessons for individual students or groups. This guide will walk you through how to schedule lessons, plan for multiple students, and record lesson completion using Montessori Compass.

Planning Lessons

Lessons can be planned from the Quick Add feature or from the Journal. There are 2 types of planned lessons:

  • Scheduled Lessons: Assign a specific date for a lesson to be presented.
  • Unscheduled Lessons: Plan lessons without specifying a date. This allows flexibility to present lessons when students show readiness.

When planning a lesson, you can select a single student or choose multiple students who will receive the same lesson, whether you plan to present it to them together or separately. By clicking the 3 dots on the right side of each planned lesson, you can edit the date, the selected students, and add or update a lesson note.

Recording a Planned Lesson

After presenting a lesson, you can document completion in several ways:

  • Record the Lesson for All Students at Once: If all assigned students participated in and completed the lesson, you can update the status in bulk.
  • Record the Lesson Separately for Individual Students: If students progress at different rates or were given separate presentations of the lesson, you can log completion individually for each student. This maintains an accurate record of their learning journey.

Deselect any students who did not participate in the presentation and then click the "Record Lesson" button. Make the appropriate selections in the fields provided and enter a private or shared lesson note if desired.

Benefits of Planning Lessons in MC

  • Efficient Planning: Easily organize lessons ahead of time while allowing for flexibility.
  • Student-Centered Tracking: Monitor individual progress and tailor future lessons accordingly.
  • Group Management: Streamline planning for multiple students without duplicating efforts.
  • Transparency and Flexibility: Keep track of when lessons were planned, who planned them, and make changes as needed.

By utlizing this digital lesson planning tool, your teachers can balance structured planning with the adaptability required in a child-led learning environment.
